Nita - Assignment 5
Still in lesson 3, the second assignment was to play with aperture to see how it affects the depth of field.
This was harder to do without a tripod as couldn't keep the camera in exactly the same location. First took the photo attempting to keep everything in focus.
Then took the photo again with only the subject in focus. In this case the gum nut flower.
Nita - Assignment 4
Lesson three was learning more about how our camera lenses work. MorgueFile is still having problems with their website where our lessons are coming from, but here is the link to lesson three in hopes that they will resolve it. http://morguefile.com/docs/Jodie_Coston:_Lesson_3 Lucky for us I saved and printed the lessons before their server crashed.
First part of the assignment was to take a photo with your widest lens possible.
Then take the same photo with your longest lens possible.
Of course mine is all the same lens - so this is what I get with pure optical zoom. Hate what digital zoom does to my pictures so have turned that feature off on my camera.

Assignment 3
I'm trying to not use similar shots to Nita - a little challenging :-) Anyway this is fast shutter speed - trying to capture Semeru as he swung around his enclosure. I have better shots, but not when he's moving this fast.
This one is actually from the last zoo trip - but is an example of a long exposure as the photo is indoors.
Now I'm thinking the assignment was actually about aperture - so this shot is at low aperture which increases depth of field (ie most of shot is in focus). Can't actually access the website right now to check on assignment or apertures...
This one is high aperture which means the blooms closest to the camera & the background are blurred - perhaps decreasing the aperture would have focused more of the front flower?
Nita - Assignment 3
Learning about aperture (f-stops) and shutter speeds...the lesson this week is probably that part of learning about photography that scares me the most. I just haven't really understood it very well. Not sure I could teach anyone else, but am feeling a bit more comfortable after the playing with my camera more.

Assignment 3 was to take creative photos using either a fast or slow shutter speed to create an effect. So here are a few of the photos I took while we were at the zoo on Friday....
With a slow shutter speed....

And with a fast shutter speed....
And here is one of the photos I took today with a fast shutter speed - I choose this as my photo of the day for Project365. Not enough light really and I couldn't get it to focus properly - but at least you can see what I was trying to achieve.

Nita - Assignment 2
Nita - Assignment 1
So here we go..... this is the website we took this lesson from and here is what we were supposed to do for the first assignment.
http://morguefile.com/docs/Jodie_Coston:_Lesson_1
Assignment 1: Take at least one abstract photo based entirely on some of the compositional rules in lesson 1. Subjects should not be recognizable. Explain why you think the composition makes a visually interesting image.

With these two photos I was trying to get a feel for the "triangle" shape in my photos. Not sure I achieved it. Also didn't achieve making my subjects "unrecognizable".
