Project 52 - Week 5 - Saturated - Jan 30 to Feb 5

This week's theme is photos that fill the space with color. The definition given on Gotta Pixel to help with the theme was....

Saturated - (of colors) of maximum chroma or purity; of the highest intensity of hue; free from admixture of white.

Not sure what kind of photo that inspires you all to - but I look forward to seeing if anyone wants to play along this week.

Nita - Project 52 - Week 4 - Self Timer

So this past weeks challenge was to practice taking photos with our self-timer. Kept meaning to get some photos of Jag and me - but too tired by the time we get home. So here are some silly shots of myself that I took today after my triathlon instead. Was so glad the event wasn't cancelled.

Project 52 - Week 4 - Self Timer - Jan 23 to 29

Well I hope everyone's camera has a self timer because this weeks challenge is to learn how to use it. Do you have the ability to take continuous self-timed photos? Mine does and we've used it a few times when we want all of us in the photo. Can't wait to see what everyone posts.

Nita - Project 52 - Week 3 - Red

I had fun looking for red things to photograph this past week. :O) I like my cactus with this tequila hat on top.

Project 52 - Week 3 - Red

Taken in the walkway outside the villa in Bali; I can't remember the name of this plant but the seed pods are definitely eye catching

Project 52 - Week 3 - Red - Jan 16 to 22

Was very ironic seeing the theme posted for this week on Gotta Pixel seeing as the colour red is what grabbed me to take last weeks photo...here is how Gotta Pixel phrased the challenge:

"This week's assignment is about the color red. Carry your camera around with you for the next week and take photos of things you see with red. At the end of the week, do you start to notice the color red more often than before?"

Took a few photos during lunch break today - but nothing red in them.

Nita - Project 52 - Week 2 - Rule of Thirds

This last weeks challenge was to practice the rule of thirds. I did try, but none of my photos really appealed me other than this one. I loved the red alarm, but must have been in a hurry to get back to work when I took it cause I didn't line it up very well on the top right intersection.

Project 52 - Week 2 - Rule of thirds

Think this actually works as I have a clear line of water in the front third of the photo, the sailboats in the second third and finish with sky in the final third horizontally. And vertically this almost works the thirds except for the two pesky sailboats tailing the last large yacht

B&W challenge

Might not make the 52 challenge - but thought I'd post when I can here instead:

I used to take hundreds of photos in b&w when I used a film camera - it was my preferred option - so it was really nice to get back to that. Turns out the simplest is my favourite. Following Nita's lead I thought I'd play on photoshop too - pre & post production - use of filter to beef up the contrast.

Holiday challenge

Didn't really spend a lot of time or thought on these - slack considering the spare time I've had - well here goes:
Silent night (okay it's obvious...):

Tradition (always have sparklers at carols by candlelight):

Reflection (on how nice the day was - thanks girls):

Festival of lights:

Ring in the New Year:

'Tis the season (for huntsman spiders & screaming Nita's):

Wishing you & yours (lotsa time content in the sunshine):

Deck the halls with rows of lawnchairs:

Resolution to spend more time doing things I love with people I love:

Project 52 - Week 2 - Rule of Thirds - Jan 9 to 15

Week 2 Challenge theme has been posted on Gotta Pixel. It is all about the Rule of Thirds.

What is the Rule of Thirds?
The rule of thirds is an imaginary tic-tac-toe board drawn across an image to break it into nine equal squares. The four points where these lines intersect are the strongest focal points. The lines themselves are the second strongest focal points.

Anyone going to play along this week and practice this, or maybe deliberately break the rule and tel us how it made your photo better?

Nita - Project 52 - Week 1 - B&W

My little camera doesn't have the option to shoot in black & white (that I know of) so I ended up doing a minor edit in Photoshop to convert it to black and white. Below is the original image (it is of a little seed with a twirly top and feather like growth to help it catch the breeze - which it did just seconds after I snapped this photo) and then the final after cropping, duplicating the image, desaturating the top image, adding just a little contrast to bring out the twirl, and then letting a little of the colour of the original come through again.

I really like the final version. What do you think?

Have spent quite a bit of time on my holiday learning new Photoshop techniques. Will let you know what I do to each image to share what I've learned.

Project 52 - Week 1 - B&W - Jan 1 to 8

Gotta Pixel is hosting a Project 52 challenge this year. Each week they will give a theme, subject, style, or technique prompt for your picture that week.

The theme for week one (January 1-7) was Black & White.

You could take the photo in black and white or convert one. OK to give it a tint if you wanted as well.

Dawn has already posted her's - well done!

Nita - Holiday Challenge

Didn't think I had taken photos for most of the holiday photo prompts - but turns out I did all but one.....

Silent Night, the Candles Alight....

Tis the Season....when cherries arrive in the shops we know the season is upon us in Australia.

Resolution - I WILL do more to look after myself this year and to relax.

Traditions - A pampering day out with the girls is a lovely new tradition.

Ring in the New Year

New Beginnings

Deck the Halls - or zoo really

Festival of Lights

Reflection - reflecting on beauty

Here is my first picture for the Gotta Pixel lead Project 52 Photo Challenge. This first week was to take a black and white photo. This photo was taken of some drab brown dead leaves frozen in a bird bath in front of my house. The color photo is uninteresting but the black and white photo makes the leaves really stand out. It was really fun to work in photoshop (PSE7) to convert this photo and learn some new techniques while doing this challenge. I hope you all decide to play along for the year.
